King Of The Ring Returning?
Our top story today is Ric Flair admitting he should never have gone to TNA, but first – are WWE bringing back one of its ‘Big Five’ PPVs?
You know King of the Ring? The old wrestling tournament which, if you won, you had to walk around wearing a crown and pretending to be an actual king. It worked wonders for the most recent winners, Sheamus in 2010 and Bad News Barrett last year.
I’m being sarcastic.
But King of the Ring has also had its moments – from Kurt Angle suplexing Shane McMahon through glass and Stone Cold’s Austin 3:16 promo after beating Jake Roberts – the one-night tournament is a great storytelling concept. Which is why it’s promising that WWE might be bringing it back.
PWInsider is reporting that WWE applied to trademark ‘King of the Ring’ as an event name last month, which might signal the tournament’s return – especially when considering how well the WWE Network’s Cruiserweight Classic has been received.
