Harald Hardrada will be leading Norway in the upcoming strategy fan’s favourite, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI which is due for release on 21st October on PC.
Hardrada’s reign saw little peace with constant warring with other nations dominating his efforts until finally he met his match in King Harold of the English at the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066. Although his reign was marred by war, Norway prospered with having a stronger leader in charge. Harald Hardrada’s special ability is Thunderbolt of the North and allows all naval melee units to be able to perform coastal raids.
Norway has two unique units in Civilization VI; the first is the Berserker, a ferocious warrior who were often feared by all who encountered them. Berserkers use one less movement point for pillaging and get a bonus to attack but are more vulnerable when defending. The second unique unit is the Viking longships which were one of the best designed vessels of its time. Longships can heal in neutral territories.
The Stave Church is Norway’s unique building. This structure provides all the benefits that temples provide but they also give a faith bonus when built adjacent to woodland.
An early advantage for Norway is that once shipbuilding is researched all naval units will be able to move into ocean tiles. This provides early access to deep water sailing and means that players can begin exploring and spreading round the world much earlier than other civilizations.
Norway’s early expansion advantages make for an interesting game for those seeking domination victories.
