A brand new civilisation comes to Civilization VI as the Kingdom of Kongo makes its very first appearance in the franchise.
Mvemba a Nzinga will be leading the Kongolese in Civilization VI and is best known for converting to Christianity after making contact with Portuguese and attempting to spread his faith across his empire. In Civilization VI, Mvemba cannot build holy sites, however, he does get the founder beliefs of any religion that establishes itself in the majority of his cities. He also gets an apostle everytime he builds an Mbanza or theatre district of the religion in that city.
The Kongo special ability provides additional food, production and gold for each relic, artifact and sculpture owned by the player. This ability also provides bonus great artist and extra merchant points each turn.
The unique unit for the Kongo are the Ngao Mbeba shield bearers. These melee troops do not require iron to build and they get additional defence against ranged units and will not be slowed down by woodland or rainforest tiles. These tiles also do not block line of sight for the warriors either.
Kongo’s unique building is the Mbanza and replaces the neighbourhood tile improvement. The Mbanza can be built earlier in the game than the neighbourhood and provides housing as well as food and gold.
The Kongo is a flexible empire to control with some great early game advantages that can ultimately lead to cultural, science and even domination victories.
Civilization VI is due for release on October 21st.
