Last week saw Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio and Jim Ross claiming that Brock Lesnar vs a returning Bill Goldberg for next month’s Survivor Series was in at least “a very strong discussion stage.” Besides from being a way to promote the WWE 2K17 video game, the other reason Lesnar vs Goldberg was fast-tracked for Survivor Series was because Brock’s opponent for Wrestlemania 33 had already been decided and WWE don’t want to change it. Because on the rare occasion, it seems, Vince McMahon actually likes to book long-term storylines in advance.
It’s rumoured that Lesnar’s Wrestlemania 33 opponent is set to be the boss’ son, Smackdown Live commissioner Shane McMahon. The two have a storyline reason to go at each other – after Lesnar F5’d Shane at the end of this year’s Summerslam (which still has a few more matches left to go. It was a long event). But, similar to the Triple H return, that feud seems to have had no mention over the last month.
WrestlingNewsWorld are reporting that another idea was to have Shane McMahon choose someone else to fight Lesnar in his place at Wrestlemania 33 – former NXT champion Samoa Joe. However, the current plan is to debut the Samoan Submission Machine on Raw as the culmination of Braun Strowman’s squash run. The Wyatt Family Black Sheep will be fed bigger names over the next few weeks, where he’ll eventually run into Samoa Joe.
Which is quite worrying because one of them is going to have to lose: your monster from NXT, or the guy you’ve been building up as a destroyer for months. It’s the same situation Baron Corbin found himself in with Dolph Ziggler on being called up to the main roster.
