While many fans had hoped to see The Defenders joining forces with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for Avengers: Infinity War, it is looking increasingly unlikely that Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist will be absent from the big showdown with Thanos.
Speaking to Collider during a Doctor Strange press junket, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige was asked for his thoughts on the Netflix shows, and whether he could ever see a time where The Defenders would join the big screen side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“I think it’s extremely impressive what Netflix has done and it will be the same answer I always give, which is, ‘It all depends on timing,'” said Feige. “It all depends on how to do it because I don’t think what anybody wants to do is have such important characters show up for one second. Black Panther and Spider-Man to me are the high bar in Civil War of how you can bring in new characters into something. Vision and Ultron, Wanda and Pietro in Ultron. And it takes a lot of screentime, and it takes a lot of work. Infinity War has a lot of people in it already. So it just depends on how we could figure it out.”
Feige certainly makes a good point that Avengers: Infinity War is already packed to the gills with characters, including Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and the debuting Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. Nevertheless, their absence is sure to disappoint some fans of the Netflix shows, but there’s always Phase Four…
