Earlier this week, Matt Hardy tweeted about wanting to buy TNA so he could perform a Total Nonstop Deletion on it – where he would rebrand the promotion.
This sounded very similar to what PWInsider have been reporting – that the last Impact Wrestling episode of the year will be filmed entirely on the Hardy compound like The Final Deletion, with a main event called Tag Team Apocalypto – where the Hardys would taken on the greatest teams from time and space.
I speculated that this sounds as though TNA President Billy Corgan is using the Broken Matt Hardy character to implement his new creative regime and reboot the product. Corgan has said that he wants to rebrand TNA if he’s able to fully buy the company. It’s an age-old comic book trick – having a big crisis event where the current reality is massively altered, and then you relaunch with a fresh start and a female Wolverine.
Matt Hardy has now partly confirmed PWInsider’s report on Twitter:
I’ve had a grand vision. An Open Invitational Tag Team #APOCALYPTO match at #TotalNonstopDELETION. Every tag team in history is welcome.
That’s a pretty vague invitation. How about you narrow it down for us a bit, Matt?
INVITED. If The Honorable Ring’s COO Kris Koff allows The Bucks of Youth to appear at #TND, I will appear at ROH in return.
I assume he means Joe Koff, the COO of Ring of Honor – the promotion The Young Bucks are currently under contract with. Hardy is effectively asking the promotion’s COO if they can appear on TNA.
“We’d love to come say hello but please don’t call us Max or Jeremy.” Matt Jackson of the Young Bucks replied, in reference to their last stint with TNA as the tag team Generation Me.
“Never. Those names are OBSOLETE. Although I recommend you two stay out of The Lake of Reincarnation,” responded Hardy.
Where it gets very interesting, though, is Matt Hardy’s offer to WWE and Vince McMahon on Twitter:
INVITED. If MeekMahan allows The Day of New to appear at #TotalNonstopDELETION’s #APOCALYPTO, I’ll make an appearance on MeekMahan’s Show.
Now…that’s a hell of an offer. Personally, I don’t see WWE letting The New Day appear on a rival wrestling show’s TV. Nor do I think they’ll want to have Matt Hardy on Raw or Smackdown while he’s still signed to another promotion. But there’s enough going on in the wacky world of professional wrestling right now to make me at least go…what?!
WWE are reportedly very interested in Matt Hardy’s character and want to approach him when his TNA contract is up in February next year. There’s also the many backstage rumours of WWE buying TNA’s tape library to keep them afloat. Maybe a Matt Hardy appearance on Raw was part of those negotiations. If those negotiations ever happened at all.
Matt Hardy finished his run of tweets with:
I’ve booked 3 new tag teams for #APOCALYPTO tonight. Let your favorite team know about #TotalNonstopDELETION so they’re not Dennis Stamped.
What teams do you want to see compete at Total Nonstop Deletion? The Dudleys, an Edge and Christian cameo. This could be a fantasy booking wet dream. Let us know in the comments below.
