We’ve all done silly things on social media. We’ve all posted an angry status about a co-worker which they’ve seen. We’ve all drunkenly tried to get back with an ex-girlfriend by liking all their holiday photos to Kavos. And we’ve all sent Byron Saxton a tweet every day for the last two years asking him to be our best friend.
WHY WON’T YOU RESPOND TO ME, BYRON?!
And professional wrestlers under contract with WWE are no different.
Following this week’s episode of Raw, Cesaro randomly tweeted:
“I’m tired of it.”
Taken in conjunction with how The New Day cheated Sheamus and Cesaro out of the tag team championships just hours earlier, the tweet could be about that. Or maybe he’s ‘tired’ of his kayfabe strained relationship with Sheamus. But because the tweet is so ambiguous, Cesaro’s opened himself up to a lot of speculation.
Theory #1 – Cesaro’s tired of The New Day’s championship reign – like many fans – which is closing in on 500 days long.
Theory #2 – Cesaro’s tired of how he’s been booked on Monday Night Raw since the brand split and wants to move to Smackdown Live.
Or Theory #3 – Cesaro’s tired of WWE altogether, and with his contract rumoured to be coming to an end soon, he might teasing leaving the promotion.
Theory #2 seems to be the frontrunner, especially after Daniel Bryan’s reply to Cesaro’s tweet:
“Coming over to #SmackdownLive might make you less tired”
This comes after Bryan claimed both Sami Zayn and Claudio (Cesaro’s previous name) told him they want to move to Smackdown on the State of the WWE Universe Network special last week. And if we go back even further, when Cesaro and Sheamus were first made a tag team, Bryan tweeted:
“Dear @WWECesaro, when does your Raw contract end? We’d love to have you on #SmackdownLive :)”
To which Cesaro replied…
“@WWEDanielBryan I’ll look into it”
Cesaro wasn’t the only one causing controversy on Twitter. After Tag Team Turmoil started on Smackdown Live, former NXT tag team champion Scott Dawson tweeted:
“We’re the hottest act in tag wrestling. You think we’re going to debut in a stupid multi-team gimmick match?! #TheRevival #TopGuys #GTTOAT”
Which he quickly deleted, and followed up with:
“Admittedly my last tweet was stupid. I’ve worked w/ all those teams & have the utmost respect for them. Stupid tweet to try to rile fans.”
Which he now seems to have DELETED too. Matt Hardy would be proud.
But the best tweet this week so far goes to WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens. After Smackdown Live announcer David Otunga retweeted and liked:
“’Battle of the Bulge, and I’m not talking about Kevin Owens’ stomach!’ – David Otunga, best line of the night!”
“.@DavidOtunga Wow! You found the one person that enjoys your commentary. Let us know when you find one that enjoyed your in-ring work.
People, we’re going to have to get Otunga to the burn ward as soon as possible.
