Raw’s big go-home promo for Goldberg and Brock Lesnar’s Survivor Series match saw the two stand opposite each other across the ring, never touching, and separated by a line of developmental wrestlers dressed as security guards.
Instead of getting physical with each other, Goldberg and Lesnar beat up the guys in between them instead. And it was awesome.
But in an interview with NBC Sports, Goldberg has revealed he injured himself while tossing the makeshift security guards around.
“My body feels horrible. I tweaked my shoulder last night [on Raw]…”
And that isn’t the only physical issue Goldberg is dealing with – he spoke about his age and overtraining also being a factor.
“Father time is not very receptive to keeping your body in the utmost shape once you reach a certain point in your life. Things don’t heal like they used to….it’s just not physically possible to give yourself the proper time to recuperate after all of these workouts. You know, I felt the ill effects of that when I tripped in the ring during my second appearance. I realized that I hadn’t had a day off in six weeks and I trained legs two days before that. It’s a logical explanation you know, but it’s a conundrum that’s quite difficult.”
While Goldberg does look in amazing condition, he has faltered slightly in both his getting physical segments – tripping slightly with Rusev, and tweaking his shoulder against the ‘security guards’. And it’s not like Brock Lesnar is the softest guy in the ring. It’s going to be very interesting to see what sort of match the two put together to get around Goldberg’s age and his 12 years of ring rust.
Vince McMahon reportedly wants Goldberg for another match, but Goldberg doesn’t want to commit to any more dates without knowing if he can go properly again. This has apparently caused Vince a booking headache, as he doesn’t know whether to keep Goldberg strong in defeat to set up a future match, or to put Brock over clean to continue Lesnar’s run of dominance. If Goldberg is already feeling the wear and tear, it supports the rumours that Brock is winning at Survivor Series, with Goldberg getting a big send off.
He did have this to say about his tweaked shoulder, though…
“…But that doesn’t mean in five days that I’m not going to come out kicking ass and taking names like I always do.”
Chris Jericho has appeared on Live Audio Wrestling to talk about his current role in WWE – where he revealed his ‘best friends’ act with Kevin Owens was never planned, and when the gimmick got a good reaction from the crowd, they ran with it. Huh. Listening to what the crowd wants. What a concept.
In terms of Jericho’s schedule, he said he was only ever meant to work through until Wrestlemania with Dean Ambrose, but then AJ Styles started getting over. So he extended his contract until July, and then October, and then November. He explained now that his deal is pretty much a month-to-month thing.
