We’re almost only seven months away from seeing a new Spider-Man film. And not just any emo-Peter Parker or stalking-Andrew Garfield Spider-Man film…a Marvel Spider-Man film.
A good Spider-Man film.
If you haven’t guessed already, I like Spider-Man. Grew up on the 90s cartoon. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 is still my personal favourite superhero movie of all time. Chad Kroeger’s Hero is on my gym playlist. So I’m excited.
And if ComicBook is to be believed, we’ll have our first look at the movie with its first trailer attached to next month’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is part of a new generation of MCU superheroes. Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, however, might be coming to an end…unless his good friend Mel Gibson directs Iron Man 4 for him! The often-controversial actor/director has said “it might be fun”. Just a few weeks after saying superhero films are full of “violence without conscience.”
Whatever Gibson reckons about the genre, he’s out of touch with the general public. Doctor Strange held onto the box office top spot this week and has now passed $500 million worldwide.
Marvel’s movies are so important, they now come at the expense of other cinematic franchises. Jeremy Renner has revealed he might have to miss out on Mission: Impossible 6 because Avengers: Infinity War will take up a lot of next year.
But where will it take place? Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have shared an image of them scouting locations in Durham. Which sent the Internet into a speculating frenzy.
One of the many theories was that the Cathedral the Russo’s were visiting could be a stand-in for Victor Von Doom’s Latverian castle. “But 20th Century Fox have the rights to Doctor Doom!” you cry. About that…
Writer Paul Wernick has revealed Fox allowed Marvel to use Ego the Living Planet in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in exchange for Deadpool’s Teenage Megasonic Warhead. Perhaps a shared custody deal – similar to Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man deal – was arranged for Fantastic Four…a geek can dream, right?
After Tim Miller’s departure (which Ryan Reynolds has now spoke about) John Wick co-director David Leitch has been announced to helm Deadpool 2. Expect many in-jokes about this production quibble in the eventual film.
