Apparently, “a member of the Green Lantern Corps.” will feature in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Don’t get too excited just yet, though. This report comes from El Mayimbe, who adamantly reported that Chris Pine would be playing Hal Jordan, even after he was announced as Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman. Maybe it’s a massive swerve, and Trevor becomes the first Green Lantern. Which would be awful, but might be enough to keep Michael Shannon awake. The Man of Steel General Zod actor has admitted he fell asleep while watching Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Speaking of good actors being in bad Hollywood blockbusters, Ewan McGregor has revealed he nearly turned down the role of Obi-Wan in the Prequel Trilogy. Dodged a bullet there. But the Star Wars name is still enough to attract the best of the best, like Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern, who have had a few details potentially revealed about their Episode VIII characters, and Emilia ‘Mother of Jedis’ Clarke joining the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology movie.
The other big Christmas-time franchise – Harry Potter – has already opened in cinemas (presumably because of Star Wars now dominating December forevermore). Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has not only received very favourable reviews, it’s also on track to make $200 million from its global opening weekend. Go see it and make up your own mind, then rank it in our Harry Potter ‘worst to best movies’ countdown.
Elsewhere in movies, Hayao Miyazaki is coming out of retirement AGAIN (seriously, he’s worse than rap artists); Jurassic World 2 is not just a sequel to Jurassic World, but also Jurassic Park 5 (in other news, sky is blue); Matt Damon will make a cameo in the female spin-off Ocean’s Eight (where he’ll probably be stranded on a desolate planet); Steve Carell is in talks to star in Warner Bros’ Minecraft movie (the pieces are starting to come together…I’ll get my coat); and Isla Fisher has teased Wedding Crashers 2…
We were spoiled for trailers this week. The new international trailer for La La Land brought with it a duet between Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, Kong: Skull Island got its second trailer (showing the King multiple times rather than teasing him Gareth Edwards Godzilla-style), and we got the first full trailer for Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast, which now holds the record for most views in 24 hours.
But because I love the anime series almost as much as Spider-Man 2, here’s the first teaser trailer for the live-action Fullmetal Alchemist movie to play us out.
May the Movies be with you.
