We’re going to kick off today’s news with some Raw spoilers. Don’t want Raw spoilers? Then get off the internet.
In last night’s main event, Sasha Banks won the Raw Women’s Championship from Charlotte in a No DQ, Falls Count Anywhere match. The emphasis is on the ‘Raw’ part of the ‘Raw Women’s Championship’ there. All three of Sasha’s title victories have been on Monday Nights. Charlotte’s undefeated pay-per-view streak is a lot less impressive when she loses the belt every other Raw.
Following Charlotte’s loss, which took place in her hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, Lance Storm had a brainwave:
“I know now why guys used to say they were from Parts Unknown. They couldn’t be beat in their hometown. #RAW”
Hometown boy Cedric Alexander also lost on the show to Tony Nese, and Sasha had previously lost at Hell in a Cell in her hometown of Boston.
I certainly didn’t see Banks’ win coming. I thought WWE was setting up a Bayley vs Charlotte feud next. But it supports last week’s rumour that Banks might be turning heel in the next few months. She’s certainly more natural as a villain, and as NXT shows, a babyface Bayley/ heel Banks feud can work really, really well. Or WWE could just stick with Sasha Banks vs Charlotte. Then, Now, Forever…
It’s a feud that’s starting to tire not just the audience, but Banks and Charlotte’s fellow Raw women, too, first from Emma…
“Please @RealMickFoley, just let it end! #WomensChampionship”
And then from Summer Rae…
Please though, let it end. #WomensChampionship #RAW
These kinds of Twitter outbursts are always difficult to figure out. Both Summer Rae and Emma were heels last time we saw them on WWE TV, so they could just be tweeting in-character. But that’s the thing…the last time we saw them on WWE TV was months ago.
Emma has been ready to redebut as Emmalina for the last two months, but has inexplicably been kept off TV. Perhaps she blames the neverending Charlotte/Banks feud as why creative haven’t had anything for her.
Whereas Summer Rae is out with injury, so she has no vested interest in entering a women’s championship feud anytime soon. Especially when you take it alongside her tweet after Hell in a Cell…
“Incredible,Trailblazing,Historic. Bridging the gap for equality & paving the way for women. So proud of yall! @SashaBanksWWE @MsCharlotteWWE”
And Emma’s… “Good luck ladies! You’ll need it… #HIAC”
So if they are using their Twitter accounts for kayfabe, why break it back then?
Like most things, the answer probably lies somewhere in the middle. Both Emma and Summer Rae are acting heelish, as per their characters, on Twitter. But the kayfabe posts are most likely backed up with some real life resentment.
Especially as neither woman won’t even get TV time on WWE Superstars anymore.
PWInsider are reporting that WWE have ended their Superstars show to be replaced with the cruiserweight-focused 205 Live. WWE Superstars first launched in the late 80s, and its most recent run started in 2009, where it eventually transitioned over to the WWE Network.
Where do you think WWE should take the women’s division from here? Tell me Charlotte vs Sasha Banks should have a best of 107 series in the comments below.
