I had a lovely Christmas, thanks for asking. I got Mafia III, a poo emoji pillow, and a jumper with a reindeer on. Which I got one day’s use out of, and now I can’t wear it for another 11 months. I was visited by Santa Claus. Also known as Father Christmas on these shores. But some were lucky enough to have their houses broken into by another festive deity: Dwanta Claus. That’s The Rock’s pun, not mine.
I couldn’t possibly take credit for that pun.
Rock ‘The Dwayne’ Johnson shared on Instagram that he got his dad, WWE Hall of Famer Rocky Johnson, a car for Christmas. Using my expert knowledge of automobiles, I can confidently tell you…that’s a large, black car.
One fan on Twitter asked Dwanta Claus for something else, though: The Rock vs Batista at Wrestlemania 33 with either Vin Diesel or Triple H as the special guest referee – to which The Animal replied:
The cheese factor in that would be way to strong! Along the lines of Limberger. Awful scent of sulphur and Fast n Furious!
This comes the same week that WWE.com posted an article advertising Batista’s upcoming Wizard World appearance on the 7th January, where he’s billed as a “WWE Superstar” and actor.
WWE’s North Korea-like media strategy usually means that they won’t mention non-WWE ventures unless it benefits them in some way, which led to rampant speculation that Batista would be returning to the company. But CageSideSeats’ rumour section has crushed those hopes, reporting that Batista is likely done with WWE and there are no plans for a retirement match like he’s talked about in the past.
Someone who is returning to WWE, though, is Kurt Angle!C’MON 2017! It’s already so much better!
The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Angle has been telling indy promoters that he isn’t accepting any more wrestling dates because he’s going back to WWE in April – which is Wrestlemania time. He’s got two more indy matches booked against Alberto El Patron and Cody Rhodes, but other than that, he has nothing else scheduled.
There’s one problem, though. Kurt has said this before, and nothing came of it.
Around Wrestlemania time last year, Angle spoke pretty openly about him meeting with Triple H, and that a return to WWE was a ‘when, not if’ situation. Then ‘when’, though, has become more and more delayed, as the Olympic Hero revealed on the Stone Cold Steve Austin podcast that he hasn’t heard anything from WWE since. More recently, however, there’s been rumours that 2K want Angle as their WWE 2K18 cover star.
Hopefully we won’t have to wait until Wrestlemania 34 for a Kurt return – which Pro Wrestling Sheet are reporting will take place in New Orleans in 2018. The site say to expect an official announcement on this soon.
How would you book a Kurt Angle WWE return in the buildup to Wrestlemania 33? Tell me how everyone will still sing ‘you suck’ to his entrance music no matter how cool his return is in the comments below.
