French movie magazine Studio Ciné Live (via Batman-News and Les Toiles Héroïques) has unveiled four brand new images from DC’s Wonder Woman, which were taken while the movie was filming in Palinuro, Italy. The images give an insider’s look at director Patty Jenkins speaking with actresses Gal Gadot and Connie Nielsen on the location’s beaches during production. See them below…
What’s even more interesting is that the outlet spoke with Chris Pine, who gave up some never-before-revealed details about his role as Steve Trevor and how he winds up on the Amazons’ island of Themyscira. “I play a pilot who works for the Allies and spies on the Germans without their knowledge,” said the actor. “My character steals a notebook filled with scientific formulas in an Ottoman base, he steals a plane but is shot down in the open sea.”
An excerpt included in the article also hints at the film’s main villain and central plot and reads as follows: “Behind these scientific formulas, there is a deadly gas that could well annihilate humanity. Now, it turns out that this is precisely the goal of Ares, the god of war. He is jealous of humanity, which is a creation of his father, the deceased Zeus (he was killed by Ares when he rebelled against his son, despite the help of the Amazons)…”
It sure sounds like Ares will be the main antagonist in Wonder Woman, which, if true, is information that DC seems to have been keeping under wraps for quite some time. As proven in the past, DC doesn’t like to reveal their true choice of villain for a given comic book adaptation until shortly before the film hits theaters.
Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
Wonder Woman will hit cinemas on June 2nd, 2017 with a cast that includes Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Said Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure) and Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead).
