Today, The Pokemon Company revealed another Pokemon title being developed for smartphones, this time centering around everyone’s favorite flailing, useless fish.
Details are scarce, but we do know that the title of the game is Splash! Magikarp!, and that the game is (sadly) only releasing in Japan at this time. The Pokemon Company made the announcement by way of a Japanese teaser site, but thanks to Kotaku, we are able to squeeze out a bit more information.
Aside from the photos, and the title of the game, there appears to be a newspaper clipping at the bottom of the page reporting how “two mysterious Magikarp-shaped holes were discovered by a 27 year-old fisherman in the middle of a town.”
So what does this all mean? Only time will tell. It’s also unclear whether this game will be made available to Western markets anytime soon. However, it wouldn’t be a huge shock given the huge global popularity of recent Pokemon mobile titles. Plus, who in the world doesn’t love Magikarp? Give him a Waterstone or two, and he’s good to go!
