The world of Shadowverse is about to get some fierce competition. Developer Cygames have just announced a collaboration with Capcom that allows fan favorites from Street Fighter V to be playable in Shadowverse:
From an official press release:
“Japanese game developer Cygames has announced a collaboration with Capcom that will see characters from Street Fighter V appear in its hit collectible card game Shadowverse. Starting this Spring, gamers worldwide will be able to get their hands on Street Fighter V themed character skins and card sleeves in Shadowverse, adding extra punch to the deep strategic gameplay on offer in Japan’s leading CCG.
The following Street Fighter V characters will appear in Shadowverse (listed with their in-game character class):
Chun Li (Swordcraft)
M. Bison (Shadowcraft)
With seven unique hero classes to choose from and vibrant real-time multiplayer battles, there’s a fresh challenge in every game of Shadowverse–and now extra punch.”
… The press release goes on to stress that the Street Fighter V content may be available for additional in-game purchases (Shadowverse is free-to-play).
CCG’s (Collectible Card Games) are all over the place these days. It’s hard to argue that Hearthstone popularized the digital CCG approach, and since then, countless games have arrived in its wake. These games have run the gamut from brilliant to shameless clone. However, there are a few digital CCG’s out there that have done something a bit different. Shadowverse is one of those games, and is “one of Japan’s leading mobile games, and esports titles” according to the press release. With character classes that function wildly different from one another, card evolutions, and a greater emphasis on story, Shadowverse carves out its own identity while still retaining the fundamentals that make a game like Hearthstone fun, and accessible.
