Not all the teasers that aired during yesterday’s Super Bowl LI were for major blockbuster movies, as FX’s latest series from American Crime Story and American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy, Feud: Bette and Joan, received two brief new teasers. Both promos are only about 12 seconds in length but manage to explain the basic premise of the show: legendary Hollywood actresses Bette Davis and Joan Crawford engage in a behind-the-scenes feud while filming 1962’s hit film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? that continues for quite some time after. Check out the teasers below…
The two iconic actresses of Old Hollywood will be played by two iconic actresses of New Hollywood, with Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange stepping into the shoes of Davis and Crawford, respectively. Lange previously worked with Murphy on American Horror Story, for which she earned numerous accolades.
The show, apparently, won’t just explore the battle between the two, but their careers and the “ageism, sexism and misogyny” they faced as older women in the industry.
Feud: Bette and Joan is set to get underway on FX on March 5th and also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones as Olivia de Havilland, Alfred Molina as director Robert Aldrich, Judy Davis as Hedda Hopper, Kathy Bates as Joan Blondell and Sarah Paulson as Geraldine Page.
