At DICE 2017, the folks over at IGN spoke with Marvel Games Creative Director Bill Rosemann about all of the Marvel games on the horizon. Not only did he reveal some information regarding the creative direction that upcoming Marvel titles will take, but he also shed a bit more light on Guardians of the Galaxy: A Telltale Series.Ooga-chak-ah
“We are really taking it seriously and focusing on each character,” Rosemann explained during his talk, titled “World Building the Marvel Way.” To do this, the game will take explore the questions: “Who are they? What do they want? How are they a family? What could tear that family apart?”
Given Telltale’s approach to gameplay, it’s not a surprise that they want to dive into character dynamics a bit more. The Guardians of the Galaxy are a diverse, and colorful cast of characters, and it’s almost a sure thing that this exploration will lead to some hilarious (and awkward) moments. Even more intriguing, however, is his question of severed ties. Given the choice-based narrative, it would make sense to have the stability of group depend on these choices.
Here’s what we know of the plot (via a Gamestop pre-order page):
“Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series delivers a brand new story of the universe’s unlikeliest heroes, the rag-tag band of outlaws who go by the names Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. In the wake of an epic battle, the Guardians discover an artifact of unspeakable power. Each of the Guardians has a reason to desire this relic, as does a ruthless enemy who is the last of her kind, and who will stop at nothing to tear it from their hands. From Earth to the Milano to Knowhere and beyond, and set to the beat of awesome music, this five-part episodic series puts you in the rocket-powered boots of Star-Lord in an original Guardians adventure, told in the unique and award-winning Telltale style, where your decisions and actions will drive the path of the story you experience.”
