Firaxis and 2K have revealed that for the first time in any Civilization game the Australians are coming to say ‘G’day’ in Civilization VI. Led by the 14th Prime Minister of Australia, John Curtin, Australia looks to be offering some interesting unique abilities that soak up the flavour of our antipodean cousins. Watch the new ‘First Look’ trailer below…..
John Curtin held the office of Prime Minister while the country was under threat of Japanese attack during World War II. He created landmark legislations, which greater unified the many states of Australia and helped the countries reconstruction after the war. John Curtin’s unique ability is ‘Citadel of Civilisation’, this ability allows Australian cities to get bonus production at the start of a defensive war and when they liberate a city from their enemy. This ability ensures that the player will be able to quickly build an army should anyone declare war on them.
‘Diggers’ are Australia’s unique unit. These troops fought valiantly for the British Commonwealth during World War 1 and 2. In Civilization VI Diggers replace the infantry unit and get additional combat power on land tiles that are adjacent to water and also when fighting outside their own territory.
The Outback Station is Australia’s unique city improvement. This unlocks with the Guild civic and can be upgraded with steam power and rapid deployment. The Outback Station provides food and production plus bonus food for adjacent pastures.
Australia’s unique ability is called ‘Land Down Under’ and provides cities with extra housing when built on coastal tiles. It also allows campuses, commercial hubs, holy sites and theatres to get extra yields when built upon tiles that are considered to provide charming or breathtaking appeal.
Australia offers some interesting features that will allow players to develop a large population and a large army quickly should another race declare war.
Look out for the Australia Race premium DLC pack coming soon to Civilization VI.
