Liam Hoofe with his predictions for WWE Elimination Chamber 2017…
We are now well on the road to WrestleMania, and with the ink still drying on the Royal Rumble fallout WWE are wasting no time pulling up to their next stop.
The Elimination Chamber rolls around this Sunday and the event will be a huge indication of the Smackdown Live side of things on the big show. The main event will see John Cena defend his WWE title inside the eponymous steel structure, but will he come out with the gold? Or will someone else take it and head into WrestleMania as champion?
Here are my full predictions for the event…
Randy Orton vs Luke Harper
This was the most recent match added to the event and it has all the potential to be one of the best matches on the card. Luke Harper is one of the most under rated performers working in WWE right now, and it’s good to see him getting to go one on one with one of the company’s big boys on PPV.
His face turn has also been great so far, and he really has some momentum coming into this match. Unfortunately for him though, I don’t see Randy putting him over this Sunday, not with The Viper only seven weeks away from his big Mania match.
Harper could really do with the victory here, and Randy well doesn’t need the rub from this victory, but screwy finishes aside I see this going Randy’s way.
Prediction: Randy Orton Wins
Tag Team Turmoil (Smackdown Tag Team Titles)
The Tag Team Turmoil is actually one of my favourite tag team match gimmicks, and executed right this match on Sunday could be brilliant. The gimmick however, does also lend itself to some chaotic booking and the match could be a train wreck.
Considering the talent involved though I have a lot of faith in this match. American Alpha should walk away from it with their gold, but this is a good chance to showcase the division and also set up a nice little feud with Alpha and The Usos for Mania season.
Prediction: American Alpha Retain
Mickie James vs Becky Lynch
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mickie take on Alexa at WrestleMania for the Women’s title, therefore I think she will get her first PPV win since her return to the company here.
Prediction: Mickie James Wins
Nikki Bella vs Natalya
If rumours are to be believed Nikki Bella will be heading into a major match up alongside her partner John Cena against The Miz and Maryse at WrestleMania. If this is true then she will likely be arriving at the event on a wave of momentum.
This feud has gone on long enough now, and Nikki should grab the win and head into Mania for what is allegedly her final match with the company.
Prediction: Nikki Bella Wins
Apollo Crews and Kalisto vs Dolph Ziggler
So this is a slightly odd one really. It looked like Ziggler was heading into a match with Crews this Sunday, when Daniel Bryan stopped him backstage and added Kalisto to the mix as well.
Ziggler’s heel turn has been fairly solid so far, and actually makes sense from a story telling point of view. He is taking a lot more momentum into the event than the other two and shouldn’t lose. However, having him beat two fellow mid carders really doesn’t do them any favors at all, and Crews and Kalisto could are in desperate need of a PPV win.
The rules have not yet been stipulated so I’m going to go out and say this will have a DQ finish of some sort, likely with Ziggler continuing his new trend of smacking Crews and Kalisto with a chair.
Prediction: Apollo Crews and Kalisto win Via DQ
Alexa Bliss vs Naomi
Naomi’s return from injury has allowed Bliss to have a fresh opponent and these two will likely put on the best woman’s match on the card Sunday night.
I feel that Bliss has a lengthy title run in her and I don’t see it being brought to an end by Naomi. Shifting the belt so close to Mania would also be damaging.
Prediction: Alexa Bliss retains
John Cena vs AJ Styles vs Baron Corbin vs Bray Wyatt vs The Miz vs Dean Ambrose (Elimination Chamber Match for the WWE Title)
With Randy Orton having won the Royal Rumble and likely heading towards a match with Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania here, the Eater of Worlds is entering the match Sunday as odds on favourite with most fans.
Though this isn’t to suggest that the match won’t be an exciting one. There are plenty of potential Mania angles that could be set up in this match, and if rumours are to believed, expect Cena and The Miz to have some sort of altercation, leading towards their tag match at Mania.
One exciting way to book the match would be to have Cena eliminated first. The crowd would be pumped for it and it would make the rest of the match exciting, due to its unpredictable start.
It’s unfortunate that Bray’s first reign will likely just be a transitional one, but now is the best time to pull the trigger on him. After years of fluffing it, Bray Wyatt is finally in a position where he can win the title, so let’s hope that it happens Sunday.
Prediction: Bray Wyatt wins the WWE Championship
