As it gears up to go into production, producer Lauren Shuler Donner has revealed that Marvel and Fox’s new X-Men TV pilot is going by the title Gifted. Donner broke the news on Twitter, releasing a photo of the cast at a table reading which also reveals that Joseph Morgan (The Originals) has secured an as-yet-unrevealed role.

If the title sounds familiar to fans, that’s because it was the name of the first story arc from Joss Whedon and John Cassaday’s Astonishing X-Men comic book series. However, while that arc dealt with a possible cure for the mutant gene, the TV series will follow two parents who go on the run from the government after discovering their children have the X gene, and link up with an underground group of mutants fighting for freedom.
UPDATE: Natalie Alyn Lind has shared a cast photo, which reveals that Blair Redford is portraying the character of John Proudstar/Thunderbird, having previously been announced as “Sam”:
Matt Nix (Burn Notice) is serving as showrunner on Gifted, with X-Men veteran Bryan Singer directing the pilot episode. Stephen Moyer (True Blood) and Amy Acker (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) are set to play the leads, Reed and Kate Stewart, while the rest of the cast includes Natalie Alyn Lind (The Goldbergs), Emma Dumont (Pretty Little Liars), Jamie Chung (Gotham), Blair Redford (Switched at Birth), Sean Teale (Incorporated), Coby Bell (Burn Notice) and Joseph Morgan (The Originals).
