Today Retro Computers Ltd. (RCL) have released the proposed artwork for the upcoming Sinclair ZX Vega+. The RCL team are aiming to stay true to the original ZX Spectrum design principles, whilst squeezing it down to roughly the size of an iPhone 7 Plus Box.
The design as you can see does look impressive, however there are grumblings across the social networks due to only now the box artwork appears to be being designed. This doesn’t help due to a succession of delays that have impeded the release of the ZX Vega+.
Back in September 2016 the release date was set for October 2016 but this never arrived and then the date was put back due to button issues discovered after a recent event. In December 2016 RCL has stated that the ZX Vega+ would be distributed come the end of February 2017, though this never arose and reasons were issued from the team behind the Vega+. Just recently a delivery was taken of a number of units so people were anticipating delivery soon.
It’s today’s statement that caused a grumble and is already forcing RCL to defend the images as people ask if they’re only just designing the boxart for the units.
As it states on RCL’s Facebook post:-
So here we go…..first preview of the proposed Vega+ box design. We have tried to stay true to the original “Speccy” design principles and we hope you like it.
We plan to make the box a similar size to an iPhone7 Plus box and the reverse will feature a quick start guide.
Which does read as though the boxart is currently under-development. Though Suzanne Martin answers one Facebook poster with:-
It must be exhausting looking for a negative…. we have had the designs for MONTHS
Our collective retrofingers are crossed that hopefully the ZX Vega+s are due for dispatch soon, as talk of more games are being added, that and the boxart is all but complete for we’d really like to see this handheld device finally in our palms.
