Universal Dreamworks Animation has announced the release date of their Trolls follow up.
Trolls found good success upon release in 2016, accumulating a tidy sum of over $339 million at the international box office from a $125 million production budget.
This was indeed good enough for Universal Dreamworks Animation – along with fan response to the animated feature – to greenlight a sequel to the movie. And we now know that Trolls 2 will arrive at cinemas on April 10, 2020.
Stars of the initial film, Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake, will reprise their roles for the sequel and the studio will be looking for more of the same from box office receipts.
The first movie was also acknowledged at the Oscars, receiving a nomination for best song – a feat Universal will be looking to repeat this time round.
Universal Pictures, after acquiring Dreamworks Animation in 2016, will be taking over as distributor for the project.
Trolls told the story of two polar opposite trolls who set out on an adventure to rescue friends after their village was invaded.
