2017 Summer Movie Preview

April 22, 2017 by Liam Hoofe

Cars 3

 UK Release Date: July 14th

What is it: The third movie in Pixar’s Cars series.

Why it might be good: The initial teaser trailer suggests that Cars 3 may be a very different movie from its predecessors. Pixar has never failed to shy away from adult issues and if the trailers here are anything to go by then this looks as though it is going to be a much darker outing from Lightning McQueen and his pals.

Why it might be bad: While the initial trailer looks promising, it is important to remember that the first two Cars movies are easily the worst that Pixar has ever released. Lacking in any of the elements that have made all their other movies so successful, the films, despite performing well at the box office, have not fared so kindly with critics. There is a chance, despite the promising trailers that this one will be no different from the previous two entries.

War for the Planet of the Apes

UK Release Date: July 14th

What is it: The third installment in the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise.

Why it might be good: Right now, there is very little to suggest that this movie will be anything but awesome. The first two installments in the franchise were great and the third one looks to take the story to its next logical step.

Why it might be bad: If there is any criticism to be leveled at what we have seen from War for the Planet of the Apes so far it is that it looks very similar to the previous movie. The film stands a chance of getting a little heavy-handed thematically and this could spoil parts of the film.

The end game of the movie is also fairly obvious, and the movie will likely have to throw in a few more plot points to keep us guessing.
