Variety is reporting that Fox 2000 has picked up the rights to The Battered Bastards of Bastogne, George Koskimaki’s book about World War II’s Battle of Bastogne, and is adapting it for the big screen under the title of Liberty Road.
The book follows the defense of Bastogne in Belgium between December 1944 and January 1945, as the Nazis launched their final major offensive, with 400,000 troops attacking the Allied forces, leading to heavy causalities on both sides.
Liberty Road is being penned by Gavin James and Neil Widener, who wrote the 2016 Black List script The Battle of Alcatraz. They will be overseen by Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies), who is also producing alongside Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger of Automatik Entertainment.
