Randy Orton Vs Rusev
At the time of writing SmackDown’s main event system is in a very strange place. Jinder Mahal, despite having spent the vast majority of his career as a jobber, is being pushed as the show’s biggest heel and will face WWE champion Randy Orton at Backlash in a few weeks.
Whether Jinder will return to his lowly status on the card after his match with Randy remains to be seen, but it is difficult to imagine the feud between the pair lasting throughout the summer.
An interesting storyline that is beginning to develop, however, is Rusev’s push to get a world title shot given to him by Shane McMahon. The Bulgarian Brute has been off TV since February and his return to TV will give the WWE another shot at establishing the former United States champion as a top level heel.
Should Shane grant him his shot? No. If the company want to make Rusev look like the monster we all know he can be, he should return to Tuesday nights and force his way into the title picture by releasing holy hell across the roster. Having him destroy opponent after opponent, forcing Shane to give him a shot, would make him look much more dominant and the resulting feud with Randy Orton would have a great story and would be something fresh for the WWE audience.
The Miz Vs Kurt Angle
The Miz’s angle with Daniel Bryan on SmackDown was one of the best things about Tuesday nights for months and helped get The Miz more over than he has ever been in his career.
Since his move to Monday nights, The Miz has been feuding with Dean Ambrose over the Intercontinental title in an entertaining, if not a slightly repetitive feud, that will likely come to a head on next week’s Raw.
Once he has won the belt and finished feuding with Ambrose (more on him later) The Miz should begin taunting Angle in the same way he did Daniel Bryan, except this time around, fans would get more excited as the possibility of Angle stepping back in the ring is a very real one.
Whether or not Angle himself steps in the ring this summer, or later down the line, the feud would be awesome to watch, as the two trading blows on the mic would certainly help Raw become a lot more entertaining. It would be the perfect way to keep The Miz relevant and would keep fans guessing in the lead-up to SummerSlam as to whether Kurt was finally going to give us one more match.
Bayley Vs Sasha Banks
WWE has been teasing this one for months, and whether the Raw Women’s title belt is included or not, this one has to happen.
Sasha and Bayley have had some incredible matches in the past and the two have yet to square up to each other on the main roster. Bayley’s recent push was fairly anticlimactic and her feud with Charlotte never felt quite as important as it should have done.
Fortunately for Bayley, the fans love her, and the same can be said for Banks. Having the latter turn heel and betray her friend would set things up quite nicely, finally giving fans the match they have wanted since both women were called up last year.
Shinsuke Nakamura Vs AJ Styles
Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles are two of the best wrestlers in the world right now. They are also two of the most over superstars in the WWE right now as well.
The two have a storied past and a match-up between the pair would no doubt be incredible. Not since Daniel Bryan and CM Punk have the company had two unique talents like this at their disposal and the company would be mad to let such an opportunity go to waste.
Should they wait until WrestleMania? Perhaps. Shinsuke is rumoured to be feuding with Owens after Backlash for the US title, and I could certainly live with a feud between those pair going the distance.
Like Naomi Vs Charlotte, neither of the two would have to turn heel here – with the storyline being sold on mutual respect and an exhibition match at SummerSlam being wrestled to decide who is the best wrestler in the world right now.
The Shield Vs The Club
Okay, so this one is pure fantasy booking, but it’s something the company should definitely consider doing.
Right now all 6 men who would be involved in this match are at a loose end creatively. First let’s look at The Shield – Roman Reigns is just not getting over, despite WWE trying their hardest, Dean Ambrose is nowhere near the level he was at this time last year and his future after his feud with The Miz looks rather aimless, and Rollins is great, but his face run has not really managed to capture the imagination – plus, is he a viable contender to Brock Lesnar’s throne right now? I don’t think so.
On The Club’s side of things – Gallows and Anderson have been at a loss creatively for months now and are fast becoming a joke on Monday nights, while Finn Balor’s return has not been quite as exciting as people had hoped, and the character will need some work if he is to get back to the top of the card.
The Shield and The Club reforming for a small feud would get every single person involved over, and yes, that includes Roman Reigns. The faction was adored by fans first time around and their unique chemistry has not been rivalled since.
Having Balor turn heel against The Shield would be a great way to establish The Club as a dominant group of heels, and the help of Gallows and Anderson could even make him a viable opponent for Brock Lesnar.
The match itself would be incredible, as would the fan’s reaction and if booked correctly the feud could even run a couple of months later into the year.
