Back in January of this year, Julian Fellowes revealed that he’s been working on a script for a Downton Abbey movie, and that while it was yet to receive the green light, he expected that it could move forward.
Well, it seems that is now looking very likely, as NBCUniversal International Studios president Michael Edelstein has told the APR that a Downton movie has been in the works for some time, and is slated to begin production in 2018.
“We are working on getting the script right and then we’ve got to figure out how to get the [cast] together,” said Edelstein during the opening of Downton Abbey: The Exhibition in Singapore. “Because as you know, people go on and do other things. But we’re hopeful to make a movie sometime next year.”
According to EW, Edelstein went on to add that he hopes to have around 20 returning cast members for the movie, although as yet there’s been no official talks with the stars.
Downton Abbey aired on ITV in the UK and PBS in the States, running for six season before coming to an end in 2015.
