Liam Hoofe predicts the results for this Sunday’s Extreme Rules WWE event…
WWE will air their 9th annual Extreme Rules show this weekend and what an underwhelming card it is. The absence of the Universal title once again leaves a Raw PPV without its biggest draw, and a main event with all 5 of the brand’s big stars in it robs the upper mid card of any key matches.
The night even appears fairly uninspired on the stipulation front, with only three matches on the card really having any sort of ‘extreme’ match stipulations.
After a terrible go home show this past week, Raw will really have to deliver a good show this Sunday. Whether it will or not remains to be seen, but let’s take a look at each match and see who is likely to walk away the victors.
Sasha Banks and Rich Swann Vs Noam Dar and Alicia Fox
Seriously, does anyone care about this match? Such a waste of all the talent involved. The feud has been terrible from the word go. I’m giving it to the faces, just because they’ll probably do a dance at the end.
Predicted Winners: Sasha Banks and Rich Swann pick up the victory
The Miz Vs Dean Ambrose – If Ambrose gets Disqualified, The Miz Wins the Title
So if Dean Ambrose gets disqualified then The Miz wins the title? Shouldn’t Maryse just come into the ring, hit The Miz and get Dean disqualified? Hell, that might even happen.
I suspect The Miz does win this one after Dean gets disqualified through no fault of his own otherwise, what is the point in having that stipulation? It will protect Dean and give the feud a reason to continue for the next month or so. I don’t think the company will have any idea what to do with Dean once he is done with the belt, so expect this one to continue for some time.
Predicted Winner: The Miz wins by DQ
The Hardy Boyz Vs Sheamus and Cesaro – Cage Match
The Hardys have had Sheamus and Cesaro’s number at every turn. The tag champs have defeated them on PPV, beat them in single matches on Raw and beat them as part of a mixed tag match – Sheamus and Cesaro really need to win this one.
The Hardys’ current gimmick isn’t long for this world and the company will likely be pushing some sort of variation on the broken gimmick over the summer. Expect the seeds for that to be planted either in this match or the direct aftermath. Either way, we will have new tag champions this Sunday.
Predicted Winners: Sheamus and Cesaro
Alexa Bliss Vs Bayley – Kendo Stick on a Pole Match
This feud took a turn for the worst this past week, and Alexa’s ‘This is your Life’ segment will likely live in infamy for years to come. That aside though, the two women can both deliver in the ring and will likely do just that on Sunday, even if the gimmick is a bit strange.
It would make zero sense for Bliss to drop the title this Sunday, although Vince and Co could panic over the negative reaction to the aforementioned segment from Monday night.
In terms of surprises, there is a slim chance Sasha could get involved here – but I think the WWE will wait a little longer before finally pulling the trigger on that feud.
Predicted Winner: Alexa Bliss Retains
Neville Vs Austin Aries – Submission Match
Neville’s Cruiserweight title reign has been nothing short of excellent and has given a shot of adrenaline to a division that was in a terrible state before his return.
Aries and Neville have put on match of the night candidates in their last two PPV appearances and I don’t expect that to change this Sunday. I can honestly see this one going either way – Aries will definitely be the one to dethrone Neville, but I’m not positive it will happen Sunday, or whether they will save it for one more event. I’m going to give it to Aries based on the stipulation, but very apprehensively.
Predicted Winner: Austin Aries wins the Cruiserweight Title
Bray Wyatt Vs Finn Balor Vs Roman Reigns Vs Samoa Joe Vs Seth Rollins – Extreme Rules Fatal 5 Way
This match is likely to end one of two ways – with Finn Balor leaving the number one contender, or with Seth Rollins leaving the number one contender. There could be a case made for each man to win this one but breaking it down these are the two who are most likely.
Reigns will be facing Lesnar at Mania, so you can rule him out. Joe needs more time to be built as a monster and then a match with Lesnar could be huge, and Bray Wyatt is Bray Wyatt, so that leaves the other two.
Finn is still owed a title match with Lesnar and the two could no doubt put on a classic if Finn was allowed to be competitive, while Rollins, despite his face turn being pretty lame, has got two big pay-per-views in the last few months over Triple H and Samoa Joe and a match between him and Lesnar could be marketable.
I’m going to give this one to Finn, though, as he appears to not have much direction at the moment and a match with Lesnar will keep him occupied. Rollins, on the other hand, still has Samoa Joe to deal with.
Predicted Winner: Finn Balor is your new #1 contender
Matches to be added?
The Extreme Rules card currently only has 6 matches, so you can expect another one or two to be added on the night, likely to the pre-show. If this is the case, then expect to see these two match-ups.
Goldust Vs R-Truth
This feud has been kinda fun, with Goldust turning back to his 1995 days and delivering some great promos. I suspect this could be the last run for the grandson of a plumber so expect him to come out on top through nefarious means.
Predicted Winner: Goldust
Kalisto Vs Titus O’Neil
This has pre-show match written all over it. The feud is all kinds of silly, but it’s keeping superstars on TV, I guess. Titus wins and Kalisto joins his little crew.
Predicted Winner: Titus O’Neil
