Oli Davis rounds up the biggest professional wrestling news in his daily WrestleTalk column…
With the women’s revolution in WWE being spearheaded by Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks and Bayley, it’s good business practice to already begin the scouting process for the female stars of tomorrow.
Thanks to Brie Bella’s recent Instagram post, we might have our first look at a future Women’s Champion – the first publicly released photo of her and Daniel Bryan’s newborn baby, Birdie Joe Danielson. Who, going by the surrounding foliage, appears to have been born in a forest.
Now the whole childbirth thing is out of the way, the Bella Mum has switched from PREGNANCY MODE to COMEBACK MODE, posting a video of her daily workout on YouTube entitled: “Brie Bella rocks out to her BRIE MODE theme songs while pumping iron for her comeback!”
Immediately following the workout in the video, Daniel Bryan tells his wife – who, remember, only recently gave birth – that she cheated during the bench press set, and only did 14 reps. Relationships are all about honesty. AND NOT TOUCHING MY REESE’S PIECES PEANUT BUTTER SPREAD. That’s a non-negotiable.
An in-ring return for Brie in two weeks time for Smackdown’s Money in the Bank show is rather ambitious. The repackaged Lana, however – who has yet to debut her new dancer gimmick – might have a better chance:

Because Birdie won’t be able to wrestle for at least several more years, WWE are wisely staging the Mae Young Classic this Summer to find the next generation of female wrestlers.
The latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter has now revealed a few of the names involved – Australia’s Demi Bennett, New Zealand wrestler Evie, and UK’s own Nixon Newell. A SnapChat image has been shared on Reddit of those last two seemingly reporting to the performance center, with them both wearing WWE recruit t-shirts.
The Newsletter also reports that UK wrestler Viper will be used in the tournament, despite being one of those signed to ITV for their World of Sport special last year. As that show’s production has been delayed, several wrestlers have asked out of their deals. And while Kairi Hojo is expected to wrestle in the Mae Young Classic, her fellow Japanese signee Io Shirai won’t make the tournament as she’s still finishing up her Stardom dates.
After holding off on signing former Ring of Honor and TNA wrestlers – following a legal warning from ROH over contract tampering – WWE appear to be gearing up for their next spending spree, with Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, Donovan Dijak and more all currently stuck in free agent limbo.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, another name is getting added to that list: ROH’s brilliant Dalton Castle.
If you’ve never seen Castle before, he comes down to the ring with two scantily-clad man servants called ‘The Boys’, is Freddie Mercury-levels of flamboyant, and utterly, utterly fabulous. Dave Meltzer writes that Castle’s contract is up this month, and WWE have shown great interest in him.
