One man indie studio ColdGames have released a new update for their sandbox, first person, open world survival game Subsistence. This brand new update introduces plenty of new features that are sure to keep the die hard survivalist happy for a good while.
With the introduction of lakes at the beginning of July this latest update will now make it possible to collect water from the various lakes on the map. Unless you play in hardcore mode players will spawn with a metal canteen which can be used to collect water and purify at a fire or woodburner. Unpurified water can still be consumed but can cause illness, which leads onto the next new feature, Illness and Medicine. As mentioned, unpurified water can cause illness but eating raw meat and animal attacks can also cause your survivor to become ill. Once a survivor becomes ill their max health and strength is reduced to 60% but it will never kill. In order to cure your survivor it is possible to craft an antidote and this can be found in the default crafting menu.
A new arrow type has been introduced in this update along with some new mechanics for switching through the different ammo types on weapons. These new arrows cause double the damage of the standard arrows and have a higher velocity with less chance of breaking. These arrows can be crafted at a workbench but will require the domestication of chickens for ‘Premium’ feathers.
Those of you who have died away from your base will know the frustration of trying to find your pack with all your belongings, well now there is a ‘Death Crate Beacon’ that indicates where your pack is located. However, unless you play in Easy Mode expect to find a third of the contents destroyed.
With the introduction of easy water collection, loot spawning in medical crates has been reduced allowing players to focus on survival rather than locating drops.
Bug fixes in this update include:
Fixed placement-bug when moving a previously placed door.
Increased shotgun shell stack count to 20.
Animal corpses now disappear once looted.
Fixed bug where crafting an item with a maxed out inventory wouldn’t drop the crafted item.
Increased capacity of storage crate by 5 slots
