THR is reporting that Kurt Russell is set to portray Santa Claus in an as-yet-untitled Christmas movie for Netflix, where he’ll star alongside Judah Lewis (The Babysitter) and Darby Camp (Big Little Lies).
The film is being directed by Clay Kaytis (The Angry Birds Movie), with Chris Columbus (Home Alone) producing, and follows “two siblings (Lewis and Camp) who try to prove that Santa is real by catching him on camera. When they accidentally cause his sleigh to crash in Chicago, they have to help get Christmas back on track before it’s ruined.”
The project has been penned by Matt Lieberman, whose stop-motion animated The Addams Family is currently in production at MGM, and is said to mix live-action with CG elements. production is slated to get underway in January, and the film is expected to hit the streaming service in time for Christmas 2018.
2017 has been a successful year for Kurt Russell, with Fast & Furious 8 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 both proving to be huge hits at the box office.
