Daniel Bryan Update
The will he/won’t he saga surrounding Daniel Bryan will likely fill many wrestling news columns throughout 2018, with the current Smackdown GM’s contract reportedly expiring around September time. His recent storyline with Shane McMahon has got many fans excited that an in-ring return may be coming very soon but Bryan stated this week, in an interview with HOT 97 FM, that the WWE is keeping to their position of not letting him return to the ring.
Bryan has been fairly vocal about his desire to return to a wrestling ring and September will leave the WWE with a very tricky decision on their hands. Bryan maintained that he has been cleared by several other specialists but the WWE’s medical staff won’t allow him to return to the ring.
Four Horsewomen Plans Changed
With Wrestlemania season just around the corner, many fans will begin speculating exactly what matches will take place on that card in the comings weeks. One match many fans will be pencilling in is the long rumoured bout between the Four Horsewomen of UFC squaring off with the Four Horsewomen of NXT. That might be changing soon, though, as Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter than plans for the match may have been cancelled.
Jessamyn Duke and Marina Sharif, two members of the UFC group have reportedly stopped training for their in-ring debut and if that is the case, then the bout is almost definitely off. While this could mean that Rousey’s much-anticipated debut may not be taking place at the Royal Rumble, I would still put my money on a singles match between her and Charlotte taking place at Wrestlemania instead.

WWE Publishes Match of The Year List
As 2017 slowly begins to fade into 2018, publications everywhere are scrambling to release their end of year round-up lists and the WWE released their very own match of the year list yesterday. The list, which awarded the top 25 WWE matches of the year is surprisingly well varied and while I might not agree with it 100%, it still features some excellent matches, and the top 5 in particular, are all great choices.
The company awarded ‘AJ Styles Vs John Cena’ at The Royal Rumble as their number 1 bout of the year, and while it came in at number 2 on our list, it’s still an excellent choice. You can check out the full list here.
You can also compare it with our top 10 matches of 2017, here.
And finally… I will be taking two weeks off from writing these daily news round-ups to spend the festive period with my family but I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank you all for reading these articles and continuing to support the website. So, Merry Christmas, Frohe Weihnachten, Flaviz Navidad, Joyeux Noel and a Happy Rusev Day to all of you, wherever you may be this Christmas!
