Ronda Rousey Appearing at the Royal Rumble
The long rumoured Women’s Royal Rumble match was announced on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, and the internet has been ablaze with discussions about the match ever since. The biggest, and most likely rumour coming out of the announcement is that former UFC star Ronda Rousey is likely to make her debut during the match.
Dave Meltzer added to this on Wrestling Observer Radio by stating that Rousey making her debut is highly likely, though he did not confirm whether or not that was the case. If Rousey is to enter the match, then many would have her pencilled in as one of the favourites on the night, though how well this would sit with WWE fans remains to be seen. Rousey would definitely help draw money for the company but having a non-wrestler win the first ever Rumble would be considered an insult by many fans. It could be worse, though – it could be James Ellsworth.
Dean Ambrose injury Update
During a match with Samoa Joe, Cesaro and Sheamus on this week’s episode of Raw, Dean Ambrose was taken away from ringside due to an injury. While it originally looked as though this could be an angle, the WWE is reporting that Ambrose has suffered a ‘high-grade triceps tendon injury’ which could potentially write the Shield member off TV for up to six months.
Dean’s injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for the superstar and it looks as though he will almost definitely be missing Wrestlemania as a result of it. Rumours were that Dean would be facing Seth in a match at Wrestlemania and if that is the case, then presumably the company will hold off until Summerslam.
Interesting US Title Segment on Smackdown
Dolph Ziggler’s US title came as a huge surprise to most fans at Clash of Champions but what was just as surprising, was his reaction to winning the belt on last night’s Smackdown. After Ziggler played a highlight reel of his title victories from the past, the champion dropped his belt in the ring, and walked off.
There is much speculation as to what this all means. Is Ziggler done with the company? It seems unlikely to me. What seems more likely, is that Ziggler will debut a new US title belt in the coming weeks – the one that an arena accidentally advertised last month. You can see the potential new design for the belt here. This is pure speculation on my part, and I’ve no reports to back it up, but it certainly seems like the most logical place for this story to be headed.
