Deadline is reporting that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards’ feature debut Monsters is being developed as a TV series by Vertigo Films and Channel 4.
The 2010 sci-fi horror, which was written and directed by Edwards, starred Scoot McNairy as a photojournalist tasked with escorting his employee’s daughter (Whitney Able) from Mexico to the United States, which involves crossing an “Infected Zone” housing extraterrestrial life forms from a crashed deep space probe. It spawned the 2015 sequel Monsters: Dark Continent.
According to Deadline, Top Boy creator Ronan Bennett will act as showrunner on the series, with Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan and Marlon Smith penning the script. Gareth Edwards is likely to be involved in some capacity, although his exact role is yet to be determined. The producers are also said to be hoping to secure a major U.S. partner, similar to what Channel 4 did with Electric Dreams and Humans.
