Liam Hoofe with a round-up of the latest wrestling news…
The Undertaker at Smackdown
Click on any wrestling site at the moment and you will see rumours of The Undertaker returning to face John Cena at this year’s Wrestlemania. The Deadman has not been seen on WWE TV since losing to Roman Reigns at last year’s Wrestlemania, in what many fans presumed what his retirement match. Fans have been wanting to see Taker take on Cena for some time now and if reports are to be believed, then they may finally get their wish.
PWInsider is reporting that The Undertaker was backstage at last night’s Smackdown Live event. While there is no word on what he was doing there, speculation is rife that the Deadman could have been there to discuss an angle with Cena for the upcoming 25th-anniversary edition of Monday Night Raw. Of course, Taker could have just been there to catch up with friends but considering the timing, and the location of the event (nowhere near Taker’s hometown) this seems unlikely.
Samoa Joe Injured
Another opponent some fans have been predicting will face John Cena at this year’s Wrestlemania is Samoa Joe. Joe indicated on this week’s episode of Raw that John Cena would be the first man he eliminated from the Royal Rumble, an announcement which had fans speculating as to whether or not the two will be feuding.
Any possibility of this, though, has sadly, been ended, with Kurt Angle tweeting last night that Samoa Joe has picked up an injury. WWE later confirmed this but did not give a time limit for his return. Joe’s absence at Mania would be a big blow, and it would be the second year running he has been missing off the Wrestlemania card. Joe did also announce that he has been cast in the upcoming Transformers animated series, which could rule him out for quite some time.
Rey Mysterio in talks with Impact
Rey Mysterio is one of the names hotly tipped to make a return at this year’s Royal Rumble event, or at least he was until Mike Johnson at PW Elite reported that Impact are in talks with the former World Heavyweight Champion to bring him into the company very soon. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer, added to this, saying that Rey is in talks with the company but it seems unlikely a deal will be in place before their next set of tapings, which is tonight.
Many WWE fans will be disappointed to see Rey in Impact as many believed he would be making a return for one last run in WWE sometime this year.
