Vince McMahon Announces The Return of the XFL
2018, what a time to be alive. After months of speculation, Vince McMahon officially announced yesterday that his often ridiculed football franchise, the XFL will be making its return in 2020. Vince has funded the project through his new brand, Alpha Entertainment and has confirmed that the running of the XFL will not interfere with his role in the WWE, and that there will be no crossover between the two products.
The XFL is notorious among wrestling fans, with Vince trying, and failing at the project once before, back in 2001. This time around, Vince is encouraging fan involvement, stating the product will be fan-centric and that it will see the sport, ‘reimagined’. Just what that means is anybody’s guess.
Major Royal Rumble Odds Shift
Well, if anyone pays attention to the odds of wrestling events, then I come this morning with two very bad pieces of news. Firstly, Daniel Bryan’s long rumoured return to the ring seems to have been put on hold- the current Smackdown GM has seen his odds rise from 4/1 to as high as 66/1 overnight with several companies, which for context- means he now has the same odds with some companies as CM Punk and Kenny Omega, so yeah- not happening.
The other major shift is concerning the favourite with the much beloved Roman Reigns narrowly creeping in ahead of Shinsuke Nakamura. Reigns is now available at 3/1 while Shinsuke is at 7/2. With only a few days to go, there is still likely to be a major shift, so keep your eye on this over the weekend- 3/1 is still fairly good odds for the winner and as the day gets closer, expect the odds to shorten as a clear favourite becomes apparent.
It’s also worth noting, for fans of Dolph Ziggler than he also seen a huge change in odds- going from 7/1 with some companies to as high as 33/1.
Braun Strowman’s Wrestlemania Opponent
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the plan for Braun Strowman is now to have him face The Miz at Wrestlemania for the Intercontinental championship. This is believed to be the reason why The Miz was made to look so strong in his victory over Reigns this past week on Raw. I’d be happy to see this match on the card, the two have had plenty of fun exchanges over the last few months and it’s about time Braun tasted some sort of gold within the company. Another new match rumoured for the card is a bout between Asuka and Rousey, which would likely indicate that the latter is walking away victorious this coming Sunday.
