The Girl on the Train and The Magnificent Seven star Haley Bennett is in talks to join writer-director Jonathan Jakubowicz’s World War II drama Resistance, where she’ll appear alongside Jesse Eisenberg (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) and German actor Matthias Schweighoefer (Kursk).
The film sees Eisenberg as Marcel Marcaeu, a mime artist who was part of the French Resistance battling the Nazis during World War II. Bennett will play Resistance fighter Emma, who played a vital role in inspiring Marceau to join her in rescuing thousands of children and walking them out of France and into Switzerland, while Schweighoefer portrays the notorious SS officer Klaus Barbie, who was personally assigned by Adolf Hitler to dismantle the Resistance.
“Haley is a true artist, a force of nature who immediately understood the character I wrote better than I ever could,” said Jakubowicz. “Emma is the reason the lives of hundreds of children were saved. I cannot wait to capture the fury of Haley’s beautiful soul embodying the heroism of the French Resistance.”
Filming on Resistance is set to get underway this fall. Bennett meanwhile has recently wrapped production on The Red Sea Diving Resort, where she stars alongside Chris Evans.
