New Opponent for John Cena at Wrestlemania 34?
For the last several months, fans have been under the impression that John Cena would be squaring off against The Undertaker at this year’s Wrestlemania, finally giving fans the Wrestlemania dream-match they have been waiting for. The company have addressed this on air, with Cena mentioning it on this week’s edition of Raw. The promos around the subject have been deliberately ambiguous, and a big reason for this is that they may not know whether Taker is going to be able to compete in the match.
Things may have changed, however, with Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso tweeting last night that Rey Mysterio was backstage at Smackdown to discuss a possible match with John Cena in New Orleans.
Breaking: Per WWE sources, Rey Mysterio is backstage working out details tonight at SmackDown for a match at WrestleMania. The rumored opponent is John Cena.

While this is still just a rumour, it would definitely be a slightly underwhelming announcement, especially considering the hype surrounding the potential Taker Vs Cena match. Rey Mysterio is set to perform for New Japan against Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger at their Strong Style Evolved event on March 25th, and perhaps the WWE felt they needed to offer him a big match to entice him back to the company.
Changes Made to Fastlane Main Event
As if the Fastlane main event wasn’t stacked enough, on last night’s Smackdown, 16 time champion John Cena earned himself a spot in the bout after defeating AJ Styles clean in the main event. The match will now feature six men- WWE Champion AJ Styles, John Cena, Baron Corbin, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and Dolph Ziggler.
Elsewhere on the card, Baron Corbin defeated Sami Zayn, and Dolph Ziggler attacked Zayn, Owens and Corbin after the match.
Andre the Giant Battle Royal Scrapped?
Ringside News is reporting that on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez suggested that the WWE will be cancelling this year’s Andre the Giant Battle Royal, and are potentially replacing it with a women’s Battle Royal instead.
Alvarez said: “I don’t know if they’re gonna have one this year. I’ve heard they may do a women’s battle royal this year like a Mae Young or a Fabulous Moolah Memorial Battle Royal. It may be the women getting it this year and not the guys.”
This would contradict other reports from earlier in the month that the company were going to push the winner of this year’s match considerably harder than previous years, due to the upcoming Andre the Giant documentary. Though, this could reinforce why they want have not decided who is going to be challenging who at Mania, as the company would likely want to keep Nia free for a battle royal.
