Liam Hoofe with a round-up of the latest wrestling news…
Two Wrestlemania Matches Announced
Two matches were announced for Wrestlemania 34 on last night’s edition of Smackdown. First, Bobby Roode announced that he would be using his rematch clause to set up a US title match with Randy Orton and second, Shane McMahon announced in the main event segment that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn would go one on one at Wrestlemania.
Both of these matches, however, are likely to change. Jinder Mahal defeated Bobby Roode on Smackdown, and it looks as though he will be added to the US title match to make it a triple threat, while Sami and Kevin appear to be back on the same page after attacking Shane in the segment, leading fans to speculate that we will either see a triple threat or a tag team match take place at Wrestlemania.
Ronda Rousey Update
Despite being advertised, Ronda Rousey did not appear on this week’s Raw, much to the frustration of fans in attendance. Pro Wrestling Sheet are reporting that Rousey was not on Raw because she was undertaking some kind of medical tests and that while she will be appearing on every Raw in the lead up to Mania, she may not be live in the arena. Ringside News reported yesterday that fans in attendances were being given Snickers bars as a consolation for Rousey not appearing. As you can imagine, this did not go down too well.
Fan Backlash over Wrestlemania Match
Speaking of angry fans, many took to social media on Monday night to express their anger at the announcement of the first ever Fabulous Moolah Battle Royal at this year’s Wrestlemania. For those who are unaware, Moolah has been accused several times in the past of sexual exploiting female trainees for financial gain. Many fans are arguing that in the age of the #metoo movement, WWE should have been much more considerate when choosing who to honor with the name of this battle royal and that there were many better candidates to choose from.
#FabulousMoolah did nothing for the #WomensEvolution … if you read up on the history of Moolah you will see what she was really like back in the day.
We are currently dealing with #MeToo and you have @WWE endorsing people like Moolah?
