Brock Lesnar Wrestles Very Short Match in Chicago
Brock Lesnar performing at house shows is about as common as Brock Lesnar defending his title these days. It’s extremely rare that Brock stars in any untelevised matches, so fans were understandably excited when it was announced he would be wrestling Kane in a house-show this past Saturday in Chicago.
Hopefully, if you were there, the excitement didn’t get to you so much that you had to dash to the toilet because Brock’s match with Kane lasted around 30 seconds. Brock hit a few suplexes, Kane went to hit a chokeslam, Brock jumped out of it, hit the F5, and won. That was that.
The match has caused an uproar among fans, and Dave Meltzer has suggested that the match happened so fast because it was ‘a company directive’ and that Brock could be saving himself for a return to the UFC. Now, not to question Meltzer, but I’m going to theorise that the match was a work, and that a lot of the press surrounding Lesnar at the moment is merely a very clever ploy from the WWE to get fans to turn on him, in the hope that they will cheer Reigns at Wrestlemania. Stranger things have happened in the WWE, and if my Twitter feed is anything to go by, it is clearly working.
Rey Mysterio Injured
Rey Mysterio hasn’t been far from the headlines over the last few months, and in the latest twist, the former World Heavyweight Champion was reportedly injured in a match this past Friday. Dave Meltzer reported that Rey picked up an injury during a tag team match, where he partnered with Flip Gordon against Joey Mercury and Caleb Konley.
Meltzer then reported on yesterday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, that Rey could work with the injury but it seems unlikely that the WWE would allow him to do that, and if he did take it, he would likely be out for up to six months. Rey is scheduled to wrestler Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger at NJPW’s Strong Style Evolved later this month, and has been rumoured to be facing John Cena at this year’s Wrestlemania.
