Liam Hoofe with his predictions for tonight’s NXT Takeover: Chicago…
NXT Takeover Chicago takes place tonight on the WWE Network, and after April’s incredible NXT Takeover: New Orleans show, fans will have high expectations for the show. Let’s take a look at the card and see who will be coming out on top of each match.
The Undisputed Era Vs Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan
As nice as it has been to see Burch and Lorcan given a shot at the tag team titles, and a decent feud in NXT, the two men are not likely to walk out of Chicago with belts around their waist. The Undisputed Era are one of the hottest properties in NXT right now, and creative are clearly building towards a match between them and British Strong Style over the Summer. This should be an entertaining match, and the champions will walk out with their gold still intact.
Prediction: The Undisputed Era Retain
Shayna Baszler Vs Nikki Cross
Shayna Baszler and Nikki Cross have given us one of the most entertaining feuds in NXT over the last month or so. The duo have a fresh dynamic that has been intriguing to watch, and they should put on one of the most interesting matches on the card Saturday night. That being said, it seems like Baszler will retain her belt here, with Nikki Cross likely heading on up to the main roster with her Sanity team-mates in the coming weeks. Baszler will probably move on to a feud with her Mae Young Classic rival, Kairi Sane, during the Summer months.
Prediction: Shayna Baszler Retains
Velveteen Dream Vs Ricochet
This match has all the potential in the world. Ricochet and Velveteen Dream are two of the most exciting young talents in the world today, and their match at NXT could steal the show this Saturday night. Velveteen Dream is one of the most complete performers the WWE has produced in some time, and a pinfall defeat will do him no harm on Sunday night. His match against Aleister Black helped push Black into the main event scene on NXT, and a solid performance against Ricochet will help push Ricochet towards a North American Title feud over the Summer. This bout could end up being the match of the weekend. Ricochet should pick up the victory here, but both men will likely come out looking a million bucks.
Prediction: Ricochet Wins
Aleister Black Vs Lars Sullivan
Aleister Black’s first defence of his NXT title will come against big bad Lars Sullivan on Saturday night, in what is probably one of the night’s most predictable encounters.
While Sullivan has been impressive, especially in his handicap match against Ricochet and Velveteen Dream back at the start of May, it seems unlikely that he is anything other than a placeholder here.
Gargano and/or Ciampa are likely to move onto the NXT title scene when they are finished with one another, and there is every chance that match will take place over SummerSlam weekend.
This should be an interesting bout, but the chances of seeing a title change are very slim.
Prediction: Aleister Black retains
Johnny Gargano Vs Tommaso Ciampa
After being awarded five stars by the WON, and stealing the show at NXT Takeover: New Orleans, fans have come to expect big things from Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa, and the latest chapter in their blood feud is likely going to steal the show this weekend.
It’s been a year since this feud started, when Ciampa turned on Gargano at last year’s NXT Takeover: Chicago, and the feud is still one of the best things on WWE television. Ciampa has grown into the best heel in the WWE, if not the business as a whole, while Gargano is a wrestling machine.
This is their second encounter, and will likely be the second in a three-part series. If that is the case, then this is the part where the bad guys. Ciampa will take the victory here, probably in some sort of brutal fashion. Gargano will rise again though.
Prediction: Tommaso Ciampa Wins
