5: Dolph Ziggler
Just days before his match with Seth Rollins at SummerSlam, Dolph Ziggler got quite the surprise on this week’s Raw, when Dean Ambrose made his long-awaited return to even up the numbers in the Intercontinental title feud.
Ziggler spent the majority of this week’s Raw reading a contract backstage, but he made the most of his time in the ring and on the mic during the show’s closing segments. Ziggler has been a good Intercontinental champion, and his match with Rollins at SummerSlam is one of the most difficult to call. A program with their respective partners is clearly looming for both men, and only one of the feuds can have the Intercontinental title involved.
4: Ronda Rousey
Ronda Rousey could be a matter of days away from picking up her first piece of gold in the WWE. The UFC Hall of Famer will take on Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam, and is she currently considered the favourite to win the bout.
Rousey opened up Raw with a touching nod to Jim ‘The Anvil’ Neidhart, who tragically passed away yesterday. She then went on to call introduce Natalya’s replacement for her match with Alexa Bliss, Ember Moon.
Bliss has a surprise of her own though and arrived in the ring with her own security force. Of course, Rousey promptly took them out before the match, and she also took out Alicia Fox after the bout as well.
Rousey is red hot at the moment and is one of the most over stars on the whole roster. Whether she wins or not on Sunday, it is surely only a matter of time before she has gold around her waist.
3: Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins managed to get momentum on his side heading into his clash with Dolph Ziggler at this Sunday’s SummerSlam when he surprised the champ with the return of his Shield team-mate, Dean Ambrose.
Rollins’ arrival on Raw looked to be in doubt, with the former WWE champion having spent the last few days in China, but he made it to the show and shocked Ziggler in the night’s closing segment.
Rollins and Ambrose’s reunion likely won’t last very long, with rumours of an Ambrose heel turn already spreading across the internet.
2: Roman Reigns
Just days before taking on Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam, Reigns was fooled by Lesnar’s advocate Paul Heyman and then left lying in the middle of the ring by the Universal Champion.
Reigns has done a pretty solid job at building his match with Lesnar at SummerSlam, and his work on the mic is continuing to improve. While his reactions are still not what you would call positive, things are definitely improving for the Big Dog.
Reigns looks likely to defeat Lesnar at SummerSlam, but the chances of him leaving the show with the belt are not so high, especially with either Braun Strowman or Kevin Owens lurking in the shadows.
1: Brock Lesnar
In what could be his last Raw appearance in a very long time, Brock Lesnar got the upper hand on his SummerSlam opponent this week, laying Reigns out in the middle of the ring with a guillotine choke hold and then an F5.
Brock’s appearance on Raw this week was a nice reminder of just how intimidating the champ can be. Heyman did all the hard work for him here, delivering a great segment with Reigns before his arrival, but Brock still captivated the audience from the moment his music hit.
Lesnar will probably drop the belt on Sunday, and fans will be glad to see that happen, but hopefully, this isn’t the last we see of Lesnar in the WWE.
