Superman’s DC Extended Universe status may be up in the air at the moment following last year’s conflicting reports about Henry Cavill’s exit, but we may soon be seeing Kal-El’s cousin Kara Zor-El on the big screen, with Warner Bros. and DC Films busy developing a Supergirl movie as part of the DCEU.
So far, we know very little about the plans for Supergirl, save for the fact that Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street, The Cloverfield Paradox) is currently hard at work on the screenplay. However, Cosmic Book News has posted some alleged details about the project, which also happen to match up with previous rumours.
According to the site, Supergirl has apparently been pitched as a period piece which will take place prior to Superman’s arrival on Earth, with half of the film occurring in space and the other half on Earth leading up to the present day. Once again, the rumours suggest that the classic Superman villain Brainiac will serve as the villain.
Meanwhile, Mark Hughes of Forbes has offered a potential update on when we might expect the Supergirl movie, stating on Twitter that: “I’m saying in a couple of years she will have a feature film. Supergirl will be carrying the Kryptonian banner on film for a little while, from what I hear.”
