The next chapter for spacefaring sim Elite Dangerous sees us hopping out of the spaceship and stretching our legs.
The new expansion titled Odyssey will see us being able to touch down on worlds, hop out of our ship and have a walk around, all in first-person. With new tech powering these new environments, Odyssey looks set to already bring mass change to the universe.
Planetary landings were introduced to Elite Dangerous with the 2015 Horizons expansion. With Odyssey we will finally see these environments fleshed out with with new ground based missions and new social areas.
The ground based missions will behave the same as their space based brethren and will include Combat, Diplomatic and Exploration scenarios. The social hubs will also act as a meeting point for players to mingle and possibly team up before tackling missions together or each other. These new social hubs will also feature shops and mission boards, much like the Outposts in orbit.
“Odyssey is our most ambitious Elite Dangerous expansion to date,” said David Braben, Founder and CEO of Frontier. “Extending coverage to the super-fine scale that is needed for on-foot gameplay while maintaining the vast raw distances measured in light years, is a huge achievement by the team, and greatly extends the already rich Elite Dangerous experience. We hope you will join us to continue this journey of discovery and adventure when Elite Dangerous: Odyssey launches in early 2021.”
Odyssey is set to “touch down” early 2021. With the launch of the Fleet Carriers already set for this month [you can read my review here] the future is looking bright for Elite Dangerous.
