Samantha Morton joins Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them cast as shooting begins

August 17, 2015 by Justin Cook

A press release has confirmed that principal photography on the upcoming Harry Potter spinoff film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has begun. With the start of production, it has also been announced that Oscar-nominated actress Samantha Morton (Minority Report, Sweet and Lowdown) will play the role of Mary Lou in the film.

The film, which is based on J.K. Rowling’s book of the same name, tells the story of a magizoologist named Newt Scamander (Redmayne), who embarks on many adventures in New York’s secret community of witches and wizards.

Warner Bros. has tapped the director of the final four Harry Potter films, David Yates, to direct, while Rowling will pen the script. The rest of the cast includes Colin Farrell (In Bruges) as Graves, Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice) as Tina, Alison Sudol (Transparent) as Tina’s sister, Dan Fogler (Kung Fu Panda) as Jacob, Ezra Miller (We Need to Talk About Kevin) as Credence, Jenn Murray (Brooklyn) as Chastity and Faith Wood-Blagrove as Modesty. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be released on November 18, 2016.
