Bryan Singer closes deal to direct 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

February 5, 2016 by Amie Cranswick

Back in September Bryan Singer revealed that he has been developing an adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic adventure novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and now it has been announced that the filmmaker has closed his deal with Fox and is moving full steam ahead towards a fall production start.

“I’m incredibly excited to be working with my friends at Fox, with whom I’ve had such a long and fruitful relationship,” Singer tells Deadline. “Ever since I was a boy and first discovered the 1870 Jules Verne novel, I have dreamt of retelling this classic story. Without revealing too much, it contains not only the original characters of Captain Nemo, Ned Land and Professor Aronnax, but also some new and original characters and Sci Fi plot twists culminating in a timeless adventure for all ages.”

Before Singer heads under the sea, there’s the small matter of X-Men: Apocalypse, which is set to open in cinemas around the world this May.
