The Get Down actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II cast as Aquaman villain Black Manta

January 31, 2017 by James Garcia

Though the future of the DCEU’s solo Batman film appears to be in flux, James Wan’s upcoming Aquaman film is gearing up for production, and just found an actor to play classic Aquaman arch-nemesis Black Manta.

According to THR, Black Manta will be played by The Get Down actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who is currently in early talks for the part following Wan’s meetings with actors for several weeks. Abdul-Mateen II has reportedly been given an official offer for the role.

There are no details on how big Manta’s role will be in the film – we do know that he won’t be the only villain, as Watchmen alum Patrick Wilson has already been cast as Aquaman’s villainous half-brother, Ocean Master.

Abdul-Mateen II joins a cast that includes Jason Momoa in the title role, as well as Amber Heard as Mera, and Willem Dafoe as Dr. Vulko. Aquaman will swim into theaters on October 5th, 2018.
