Oscar winning actress Kate Winslet is said to be the frontrunner for the female lead in the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic, according to Variety. Originally Natalie Portman had been approached for the role but negotiations have fallen through.
The film is based on the Walter Isaacson-penned biography about the apple founder Steve Jobs. The film has had some issues over the past few weeks with both Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale dropping out, as well as original director David Fincher leaving the project. Sony was originally funding before letting it go, allowing Universal to pick up the project.
The film currently has no official release date, and is being directed by Danny Boyle with a script from Aaron Sorkin. Kate Winslet is set to join a cast that includes Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs with Seth Rogan as Steve Wozniak and Jeff Daniels as John Scully.
