Following the news that Donnie Yen has been cast in Star Wars: Episode VIII, we’ve got a new rumour for the Gareth Edwards directed spin-off Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One.
According to Yahoo! Singapore, Chinese actor and director Jiang Wen has joined the cast. Wen is perhaps best known for his Let the Bullets Fly, but he has also starred in and directed several action movies.
“Jiang reportedly will star in the upcoming spinoff, Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One. The news came a month after it was previously rumoured that Rogue One had been pursuing Chinese talent.”
Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One is set prior to A New Hope and follows a group of Rebels as they attempt to steal the plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the Death Star. Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) is directing, while the cast includes Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler), Diego Luna (Elysium), Forest Whitaker (Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai) and Jonathan Aris (Sherlock).
Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One is set for release on December 16th, 2016.
