Between Daisy Ridley’s Rey and Gwendoline Christie’s Captain Phasma from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Felicity Jones’ as-yet-unreveald Rebel from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Disney has made a pretty good start when it comes to introducing more female characters to the galaxy far, far away. And, if a new rumour is to be believed, that will also continue with 2017’s Star Wars: Episode VIII.
According to Geek Nation, “Disney and Lucasfilm are currently in the midst of looking for a strong, young female character to be featured heavily in Star Wars: Episode VIII.”
Now, it’s certainly not a stretch to imagine that Episode VIII will introduce new characters, but the reports gets a little more interesting / dubious by adding that, “it seems like the new, female character will have strong ties to the Solo family, and all signs seem to be pointing towards her being Han’s daughter.”
But wait a minute… Daisy Ridley’s Rey is Han’s daughter, right? Well, that seems to be what everyone is expecting, but we’ve not had any confirmation on that, so perhaps she’s really just an unrelated scavenger from Jakku?
Star Wars: Episode VIII will be directed by Rian Johnson (Looper), and is set for release on May 26th 2017.
