DreamWorks and producer Frank Marshall developing horror-thriller Cropsey

September 5, 2015 by Tom Beasley

Producer Frank Marshall is developing horror-thriller Cropsey for DreamWorks, according to a report in Variety, with the style of Amblin blockbusters as a key influence.

Cropsey will focus on the well-worn horror premise of a group of teenagers at a summer camp, who are haunted by the eponymous urban legend, notorious in the New York area.

Screenwriting duo Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, who recently penned thriller The Autopsy of Jane Doe, are attached to the project.

DreamWorks are hoping to develop the story in the style of Amblin Entertainment, recalling that studio’s light-hearted gems in the 1980s from directors such as Steven Spielberg and Joe Dante.

Marshall co-founded Amblin with his future wife Kathleen Kennedy, who is currently rather busy as one of the key forces behind the new Star Wars franchise.
